Yaya’s Birthday

By Annette Trespalacios Quade

December 2005

In January 2005, we celebrated the 90th birthday of a wonderful lady Clotilde
Espina Ferrer (Yaya) with family and friends. From the food to the dancing, the
party was great. In her ninety years, she has seen a multitude of changes in the
world and within the family. One thing that has not changed is her absolute love
of the people in her life. Gathered around in this room, seeing all of your
happy faces, gives her joy without compare. There are now children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her great-grandchildren are always amazed to hear that there was no TV when Yaya was born!!!! From her delicious frijoles negros, to her sewing, to her always asking, "¿No tienes nada para doblar?, Yaya is a great grandmother!
